About:

What is it?

UGA CITI Login Portal provides an easy way to login to the CITI web site using your UGA MyID and Password without needing to maintain (and remember) a separate login. Furthermore, using the CITI Login Portal links all of your CITI training records to you and UGA.  This allows your CITI training records to be used by the Office of Research’s compliance management applications, such as Click IRB.  While the use of the portal will allow the integration of your human subjects training records with Click IRB, it also enhances access, documentation, and review of the other CITI training modules used for Responsible Conduct of Research, Financial Conflict of Interest, or others we may use in the future.

When should I use the UGA CITI Login portal?

UGA faculty/staff/students should use the portal whenever they wish to access CITI’s website, including:

  • Creating a new CITI account by a new user
  • Affiliating an existing CITI account with the University of Georgia
  • Accessing CITI training services
  • Examining CITI training records

FAQ's

Must I use the UGA CITI Portal?

You MUST use the UGA CITI Login Portal at least one time before you can participate in any UGA compliance task (protocol submission, renewal, amendment and grant submission) or the next time you wish to take a CITI course. That is simply to be certain that your CITI training website account is associated with your UGAID.

You MUST use the CITI Login Portal to open a new CITI Account, simply to assure that your UGAID is associated with your CITI account and your CITI account is affiliated with UGA.

You are advised to use the UGA CITI Login Portal to login to CITI for any reason, including opening a CITI account, continuing your CITI training or examining your CITI training records. This will assure that your CITI account is correctly associated with your UGAID and your CITI account is affiliated with UGA.

Why should I use the UGA CITI Portal at least one time?

The first time you use the UGA CITI Portal, your UGAID will be associated with your CITI training records on the CITI training website. Three times a day, training records of those affiliated with UGA on the CITI training records website are downloaded to a UGA database. Those records with your UGAID are used to determine your required training status in UGA’s compliance and research administration online applications, such as Grants and IRB.

Who can use the UGA CITI Login portal?

Anyone with a valid UGA MyID and password or with a valid UGA/Office of Research affiliate login name and password may use the UGA CITI Login Portal.

What is the difference between a “UGA Affiliate” on CITI Training and a “UGA/OVPR Affiliate”?

On the CITI training website, one may be affiliated with any number of institutions. Those affiliations allow training records administrators in those institutions to view the training records (on CITI) of those affiliated on CITI with their respective institutions. If one is affiliated on CITI with UGA, then they are a UGA affiliate on CITI.

UGA/Office of Research Affiliate is a person who is not a UGA faculty, staff or student, but is participating in research and/or laboratory activities that require them the ability to login and access Office of Research’s research administration or any of UGA’s research and laboratory compliance systems and/or to be given a unique, secure identifier on those systems. A UGA/Office of Research Affiliate may or may not be a UGA affiliate on CITI.

I have been using the citiprogram.org to take my CITI training. Must I use the UGA CITI Login portal?

Yes. See the first FAQ for more information.

What happens when I use the UGA CITI Login Portal?

When you login to the UGA CITI Portal using your UGA MyID or UGA/Office of Research affiliate user name and password, the UGA CITI portal will authenticate your UGA login credentials and query the CITI training website that your UGAID has been associated with your CITI training records.

If you have a CITI account and your UGAID has been associated with your CITI account, you will be taken immediately to the CITI Main Menu to proceed.

If your UGAID cannot be found in CITI, you will be taken to a new page, where you may either

  • create a new CITI training website account or
  • enter your existing CITI username and password, creating the link between your existing CITI website training account and your UGAID. Then it will take you to the CITI Main Menu.
Should I remember my CITI website username and password?

If you are UGA faculty, staff or student and leave UGA, your UGA MyID will become inactive. Therefore, the only way you will be able to login to the CITI website will be by using your CITI username and password. So you should retrieve and record your CITI website username and change your CITI password to something you can remember.

If you are a UGA/Office of Research affiliate and your affiliation ends, your UGA/Office of Research affiliate username and password will eventually expire. So you should retrieve and record your CITI website username and change your CITI password to something you can remember.

TIP: CITI allows you to designate a Secondary Email address. On the CITI mail page click “My Profiles”. See you have a Preferred Email. We suggest you add a Secondary Email by click “Change my email address” and filling in “Your secondary email address:”.

This will allow you to retrieve your CITI login credentials should your preferred email address become unusable (because you left an institution, for example).

Am I able to register at CITI as a UGA affiliate without using the UGA CITI Portal?

No. The only way to identify yourself as an affiliate of UGA on the CITI training website is by using the UGA CITI portal. If you are a UGA faculty, staff or student, you may use the portal without further preparation.

If you are not a UGA faculty, staff or student and have not created a UGA/Office of Research affiliate user name, you must request a UGA/Office of Research affiliate username and password, then access the CITI training site using the UGA CITI Portal in order to establish yourself as a UGA affiliate on the CITI training site.

To request an UGA/Office of Research affiliate user name to take the RCR (Responsible Conduct of Research) course, contact Cathy Cuppett (cathya15@uga.edu). To request UGA/Office of Research affiliate username to take the IRB/Human Subjects Research course, contact Kim Fowler (kfowler@uga.edu).

If you have previously registered on the CITI training website as a UGA affiliate without using the UGA CITI Portal, you must request a UGA/Office of Research affiliate username and password, then use the UGA CITI Portal for your next login to CITI. You will be authenticated as a UGA person (faculty, staff, student, UGA/Office of Research affiliate), then asked for your CITI username and password. Your CITI account will then be updated with your UGAID, and all will be in order.

I have a CITI account with training records, but I am not affiliated with UGA on my CITI account. What should I do?

If you are a UGA faculty, staff or student and have a valid UGA MyID and password, you must use the UGA CITI Login Portal. Following the instructions, your UGAID will be associated to your CITI account, your CITI account will be affiliated with UGA and UGA’s compliance applications will be able to use your CITI training records.

If you are not a UGA faculty, staff or student but need to affiliate your CITI training records account with UGA, use your UGA/Office of Research affiliate username and password or request a UGA/Office of Research affiliate username and password as described above.

If I leave UGA, will I still be able to login to CITI?

Your UGA MyID will eventually become “inactive”, so your login through the UGA CITI Login portal will eventually be denied. You will be able to login using the CITI home page directly, not using the UGA CITI Portal. The CITI website provides a way for you to retrieve your CITI login and password, if you did not know or have forgotten them. Then you will be able to login directly on citiprogram.org and change your institutional affiliation.

If I change my “CITI Account Information” on CITI (name, preferred email address and/or secondary email address), will my training records still be available to UGA’s compliance systems.

Because CITI and UGA use your UGAID to identify you, your records will be available to the UGA compliance systems, regardless of the name you have on CITI. However, there may be some confusion when those records are reviewed by a human if there are mismatches in name and/or email address. It is strongly recommended that you do NOT change your name or Preferred Email address on CITI (except to make them match your UGA name and email address.

TIP: CITI allows you to designate a Secondary Email address. On the CITI mail page click “My Profiles”. See you have a Preferred Email. We suggest you add a Secondary Email by click “Change my email address” and filling in “Your secondary email address:”.

If I change my “login information” (username, password) on CITI, will my training records still be available to UGA’s compliance systems?

Changing your CITI login will have no effect on your ability to use the UGA CITI Login Portal, as you use your UGA MyID (or UGA Affiliate login ID) and password to access CITI.

I inadvertently used the UGA CITI Login portal to create a new CITI account for myself. Then I realized I already had a CITI account. What should I do?

Using the UGA CITI Login Portal, login to using your UGA MyID (or UGA Affiliate login ID) and password.
You will be on CITI’s main menu using the second account you created.

Click on “Remove my affiliation from University of Georgia,” at the bottom of the page. Logoff of CITI.
Now login using the UGA CITI Login Portal again.

This time, because you removed your UGA affiliation, the second account you created will not be found.
Following the instructions on this page, and selecting the second radio button, you will be able to enter the CITI login and password of the CITI account that you wish to use, causing your UGAID to be associated to that account and your UGA affiliation to be established.
