Display Settings

Problem

"My monitor is too bright/too dim -or- My icons and fonts are too large/too small"

Solution

Windows based operating systems have options that allow a user to change display settings such as brightness and screen resolution. These settings will be found in the Control Panel under Display Settings. Screen resolution and icon sizes can only be changed here. These settings may not be available to all users without having an Administrator’s account to access them. If this is the case on your computer, you may need to contact the IT HelpDesk for further assistance.

However, many computer monitors have built-in display controls that can be changed by anyone. These controls usually are located near the bottom right hand corner of the monitor bezel or frame, and are generally comprised of a set of three or four buttons. Typically one of these buttons will open a menu, another one or two will scroll through that menu, and another one will act as an “Enter” key for the selected option. Using these buttons, any user may significantly change display options relating to brightness, color, warmth, and screen position. Also, many newer monitors come loaded with pre-set display options that the user may choose without having to change individual display settings. These pre-sets offer convenient options for those who find that their screen is too bright, etc.
